Khylindril’s Tower – A Lifelong Journey

Khylindril’s Tower – A Lifelong Journey

Khylindril’s Tower started as an Advanced Dungeons and Dragon adventure module. I even submitted the module to Dungeon Magazine, but it was never published. After running some friends through the module, I toyed with the idea of writing a story based on the module.

Khylindril’s Tower – The Story

Khylindril’s Tower is a fantasy novel, set in the world of Illiana. It takes place a few hundred years after the liberation of the Tower. It is a story of a group of young adventurers from all walks of life, who come together for one straightforward mission, but find themselves in the adventure of a lifetime.

These adventurers also discover the twisted secret of Khylindril’s Tower, while at the same time revealing an enemy Illiana never knew they had.

The latest version of the book is located on the right hand side of this page. I do have subscribers who donate to my cause. These folks have the latest chapter not included in the public version.

Why Has it Taken Me So Long

I have been working on this since my mid to late 20’s and I started by writing some short stories with Illiana as the backdrop. This was just an attempt to flesh out some of the parts of the world and its history. I still have some of those original stories and I even have the text for the module I submitted and have posted them in all their grammatically horrible glory.

At some point, I left all my drawings, notes, and maps in the back of my car. Someone took all of this from my car while it was sitting in the driveway.

Needless to say, this killed my motivation. The story sat idle for several years until I discovered some old documents on a hard driver. I started to gather as much of the story together that I could cobble together. Now that I have passed the half century mark, I decided it was time to finish this novel. This website is part of the process and I am hoping it will help to keep me motivated.

I do have one advantage; I’m not expecting to be published. I am not the best “technical” writer and you will find I frequently fall into a passive voice. My grammar is decent, but my word use is casual. Do not expect Hemingway style prose, although I do try to write as straight as I can. Finally, I am constantly editing my work. You will notice changes to chapters you have already read and this may drive you crazy.

I really hope you enjoy it and please feel free to leave me any feedback you want. As long as it is polite, I am always open to criticism.
